This guide explains how to set up the Kidney Dog Diet AI and generate a recipe for your dog. A complete and accurate profile helps the app create safer, more useful, and more personalized recipe suggestions.

The setup covers your access code, your dog's profile, kidney status and bloodwork, the Kidney-Friendly Score target, concurrent conditions, allergies, cooking preferences, and ingredients on hand. A photo of the finished dish is generated automatically with every recipe — no extra setup needed.

The Kidney Dog Diet AI generates recipe ideas using AI. It supports a generally kidney-friendly homemade feeding pattern but does not diagnose, treat, or cure kidney disease, and it does not replace veterinary advice or a vet-prescribed renal diet. Always confirm any diet change with your veterinarian — ideally a board-certified veterinary nutritionist (DACVN) — before feeding it to your dog.
Getting Started
1Enter your access code
Open Dog Profile, then use the Premium Access section at the top and enter the access code you received after your purchase, in the field labeled "Your access code" (it looks like KD-XXXX-XXXX). This lets the app generate personalized recipes with photos included — no OpenAI account or API key needed. The moment a valid code is entered, the app shows a live status panel with your recipes used, recipes remaining, and your pass expiry date.
2Your dog's profile travels with you
Your dog's profile is saved in your browser and also securely on your account, linked only to your access code — never to your name or email. Enter the same code on another phone, tablet, or computer and the profile loads automatically, so you don't have to set it up twice.
3What devices does it work on?
Any device with a modern web browser — phone, tablet, or computer. There is nothing to download or install.
Building Your Dog's Profile

  • Weight & basics — Enter your dog's weight (use the Imperial/Metric toggle for lb or kg), plus breed, age, body condition, and activity level. Portions are sized to your dog's weight, not human servings.
  • Kidney status — Add the IRIS stage if you know it, appetite/nausea, and any optional bloodwork (creatinine, BUN, phosphorus, SDMA). Leave anything blank if you don't have it.
  • Kidney-Friendly Score target — Set your target from 0–100 (default 80). This is an internal recipe-quality score showing how closely a recipe follows the kidney-supportive pattern — controlled phosphorus, moderate high-quality protein, low sodium. It is not a medical biomarker.
  • Concurrent conditions — Check any that apply, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, pancreatitis, diabetes, low appetite, or weight loss, so the app can adjust the recipe direction.
5Allergies & foods to avoid
  • Food allergies & intolerances — List any foods your dog must avoid, separated by commas (for example: chicken, beef). Write them clearly and completely — the app is designed to respect allergies with no exceptions.
  • Current treatment — Note context like a prescription renal diet, phosphorus binders, SubQ fluids, or appetite stimulants. This is informational only — recipes never dose any medication.
  • Foods the dog refuses — Use this for things your dog won't eat or that upset it, so the app steers around them.
Safety reminder
Foods toxic to dogs (grapes, raisins, onion, garlic, chocolate, xylitol, and others) are never used. Even so, always read every generated recipe carefully before preparing it. AI suggestions never replace your veterinarian's guidance.
6Cooking preferences
  • Cooking style — Choose a style such as gently cooked whole-food, novel-protein, fish-based, poultry-based, egg-forward, budget-friendly, or batch/meal-prep.
  • Time available — Set how much time you have so recipes fit your schedule.
  • Equipment — Note what you have, such as a slow cooker or stovetop.
  • Batch or fresh & ingredients on hand — Choose fresh single meals or batch cooking, and list ingredients you already have so the app builds around them.
7Save your dog's profile
Open Dog Profile, complete the setup fields, and save your profile. The app uses your saved settings every time you generate a recipe, and saves a secure copy to your account so it loads on any device where you enter your code. Save again whenever you change any details.
Quick Setup Checklist
  • Access code entered correctly (KD-XXXX-XXXX) and showing as active.
  • Your dog's weight entered, with the right Imperial/Metric unit.
  • IRIS stage and any bloodwork added under Kidney status.
  • Food allergies and foods the dog refuses are written clearly.
  • Concurrent conditions, treatment, and cooking style are set.
  • Profile saved, and you plan to run the first recipe by your vet.
Generating a Recipe
8Set up your recipe request
  • Recipe type — Choose a kidney-supportive recipe type, such as a full meal, a batch/meal-prep recipe, a topper to mix with current food, or a treat.
  • Portion by weight — The recipe is sized to your dog's weight from the profile, so there's no human "servings" to set.
  • Ingredients on hand — Optionally list what you already have, such as white rice, pumpkin, egg whites, so the app builds around it.
  • Anything specific for today — Use this for needs like no oven, something gentle for low appetite, or extra-soft texture.
9Generate your dog's recipe
Tap "GENERATE A RECIPE". The app creates a kidney-supportive suggestion based on the saved profile and today's details, together with an AI-generated photo of the finished dish — both included automatically, so the photo may take a few extra seconds to appear after the recipe text. Each recipe you generate uses one of the 100 in your pass, and the status panel updates with your new remaining count. There is no daily recipe limit.
My Recipes & Renewing
10Save a recipe to My Recipes
Every recipe you generate is saved automatically to My Recipes. You can open it again, view the photo and nutrient estimates, or download it later. Recipes are linked to your access code and kept on your account, so entering the same code on another device loads your whole collection. Automatic saving does not use any additional recipe credits.
11Download as a PDF
Tap "Download PDF" to save the recipe, including the dish photo, as a PDF — useful for printing or bringing to your vet appointment. Review the recipe carefully before downloading to confirm it matches your dog's allergies, stage, and needs.
12Check status & renew your pass
Whenever your access code is entered, the status panel shows "Recipes Used: X of Y," "Remaining: Z Recipes," and "Expires: [date]". When the pass ends, open Premium Access and select RENEW ACCESS. The app first shows your renewal summary and price, then opens secure Stripe Checkout. Once payment is confirmed, the same access code receives a new recipe allowance and validity period. Your dog profiles and saved recipes stay connected to that code.
Important reminder
A saved or downloaded recipe is still an AI-generated suggestion, and a homemade diet is usually not complete without vet-set supplements. Always confirm the ingredients, portions, and supplements with your veterinarian before feeding.
